(VOVworld) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received on Sunday former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama on a working visit to Vietnam. PM Dung highly appreciated the Japanese guest’s visit to attend the inauguration of Vietnam-Japan polyclinic and present 50 wheelchairs to children with deformities caused by Agent Orange/dioxin.

He praised Hatoyama’s important contributions to the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Japan when he was in his capacity as Japanese Prime Minister and President of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance. Hatoyama pledged his utmost efforts to foster bilateral relations in the future and continue providing humanitarian assistance for Vietnamese AO/Dioxin victims. He also proposed that the two countries strengthen cooperation in vocational training and agricultural development which are of Japan’s strength. He said he will personally boost opportunities for cooperation in this field and will encourage Japanese localities and firms to cooperate with Vietnamese partners to develop hi-tech agriculture especially in aquaculture, rice and seafood processing. Regarding regional and international issues, Hatoyama shared the stance on resolving regional disputes in the East Sea and East China Sea by peaceful means in conformity with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), not unilaterally using force or threatening to use force in settling disputes.
