The inflation rate has decreased from 18.13 percent in 2011 to 5 percent, bringing lower bank interest rates. The balance of trade, which has moved into an export surplus, and an improved account balance have raised Vietnam’s financial prestige in the world market. Tran Hoang Ngan, National Assembly deputy from Ho Chi Minh city, said the government needs to focus on promoting the potential of the domestic economy especially by resolving enterprises’ difficulties. He expressed his support for the target of GDP growth of more than 6 percent and an inflation rate of 5 percent in 2015. Mr. Ngan: "I agree with the target of GDP growth of 6.2 percent but this could reach 6.5 percent because Vietnam has a great potential. I think that social investment capital reaching 30 percent of GDP is not feasible because Vietnam’s Incremental capital output ratio reached a record high of 5.5 percent over the past 10 years. If we set a target of 6.2 percent growth and social investment capital of 30 percent of GDP, it will be difficult to achieve it. So, we need a policy to increase this capital".

Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung delivered a report at the ongoing 8th session of the 13th National Assembly in Hanoi showing that Vietnam's socioeconomic development is progressing steadily and the Government will continue with its master project focusing on restructuring the economy including arrangement, equitization and restructuring of state-owned enterprises alongside the country's process of renovation. The report also pointed out the need to improve Vietnam's business environment and competitiveness, faster credit growth and lower public debt. Later in the session, deputies heard a summary report on voters' opinions and a report on the prevention of and fight against corruption in 2014.
