Nguyen Xuan Phuc elected as Prime Minister for 2016-2021 tenure

(VOVworld)- On Tuesday, 485 out of 489 deputies present at the plenary session of the 14th National Assembly, or 98.18 percent, voted for Nguyen Xuan Phuc as Prime Minister for the 2016-2021 tenure.

A resolution on the election of the new Government leader was also passed by 482 deputies, or 97.57 percent.  At his swearing-in ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc clarified the great responsibility assigned to him by the Party, NA, voters and people nationwide, affirming that he will make every effort to serve the nation and people.

The PM stressed that Vietnam is facing both development opportunities and challenges, which require the country to optimize its internal strength and make full use of outside support, for the sake of the nation’s interests and its rapid and sustainable development towards becoming a rich country with an increased position in the world arena.

The Prime Minister said Vietnam has the great potential of its human resources and it’s important to create opportunities for talented Vietnamese people to contribute to national development: “Talents of the future are today’s younger generation. It’s our responsibility to educate and train the young, invest more in education, and allocate adequate budgets to improve classes, libraries, and travel for schoolchildren in remote areas. It’s important to create equal opportunities in education so that the children of farmers, workers and the poor can learn and become talents of the nation”.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of promoting the development of the private sector, increase links between the state and private sectors, and create a favorable business environment. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc was born in 1954 in Quang Nam province. He graduated as Bachelor of Economics and was Deputy Prime Minister from 2011 to 2016, and was elected Prime Minister for the 2016-2021 tenure at the 11th session of the 13th National Assembly.
