The North accepted South Korea's proposal for Red Cross talks on Saturday through a message received at the liaison office in Panmunjeom.

At the meeting, leaders of both countries will discuss the timetable and location for the reunion and the number of families.

Data by the Korean Red Cross show that the still-living registered members of separated families in South Korea amounted to more than 66,000 as of the end of June.

Nineteen face-to-face family reunions have taken place since 1985. The last event took place last year when around 2,200 South Koreans, mostly in their 70s and 90s, met their family members and relatives in the North.
