The visit will be made at the invitation of the Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. The two countries established diplomatic relations in January 10, 1976. In June 1993, Vietnam opened a trade representative office and in October 2003 opened its Embassy in Kuwait. Kuwait opened an Embassy in Hanoi in August 2007 and General Consulate in Ho Chi Minh city in September 2007. Both sides signed a number of agreements, such as the framework agreement on economic, scientific and technological cooperation, the trade deal, and the agreement on aviation transportation. In February 2016, the Kuwaiti government recognized Vietnam’s market economy.

The upcoming visit by the Kuwaiti Prime Minister is aimed at boosting bilateral friendship and cooperation, especially in trade, oil, labor, agriculture, and tourism. Both sides will also discuss regional and international issues of mutual concerns.
