Vietnam and Sri Lanka wish to enhance multilateral cooperation

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung held a reception for Sri Lankan Ambassador Ivan Amarasinghe who is to end his ambassadorial term in Vietnam. Mr. Dung affirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy of cooperating with Sri Lanka to deepen bilateral relations for the benefit of both countries.

He urged each country to boost trade exchange to increase two-way trade turnover and expand cooperation in tourism, agriculture, and fishery. He asked Sri Lanka and Vietnam to closely work together and support each other at international and regional forums, especially at the United Nations.

Ambassador Ivan Amarasinghe hoped that Vietnam and Sri Lanka would increase cooperation in their strong sectors including agriculture, fishery, and cash crop processing.  

In the first half of last year, bilateral trade reached 109 million USD, equivalent to 2011’s value. Vietnam and Sri Lanka signed 24 bilateral agreements.
