(VOVworld)- Vietnam condemns violent acts against civilians and violations of human rights in Iraq. In his address at a special meeting of the UN Human Rights Council on the human rights situation in Iraq on Monday, a representative of the Vietnamese delegation to Geneva said that human rights could only be protected and promoted once peace and stability is restored and Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, principles of international law and UN Charter are respected. At the meeting, more than 30 members and 40 observers of the UN Human Rights Council condemned terrorist acts and systematic human rights abuses committed by the Islamic State (IS) group in Iraq, saying they amount to crimes against humanity. The Human Rights Council adopted a Resolution on the Human Rights Situation in Iraq condemning ISIS’s terrorist acts and violence against civilians.
