At a review meeting in Hanoi on Friday, the Vietnam Fatherland Front reported that after three months the program has received 9 million USD to help the affected people deal with the immediate consequences.

In the long run, participants underlined the need to pay more attention to providing them with means of subsistence, applying more advanced technologies to respond to saline intrusion, and seeking coordination mechanisms between central and local levels to provide the right support.

Bui Thi Hoa, Vice President of Vietnam Women’s Union, suggested: “Apart from immediate support policies, the government should design more fundamental solutions to help people adapt to the current situation of climate change, a long-term issue that Vietnam must realize.”

VFF President Nguyen Thien Nhan called for continued efforts to assist people in the areas hit by draught and saltwater intrusion and increased monitoring of the funding resources to be used effectively.
