VOV President honors Vietnamese athletes from ASIAD 2018

(VOVWORLD) - A program titled “Proud of Vietnam” was held by the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Sunday afternoon at Hanoi’s My Dinh national stadium to honor outstanding athletes of the Vietnamese sports delegation returning home from the 2018 Asian Games (ASIAD) in Indonesia.

"The art program, broadcast live on VOVTV, VTC, and other media, and held to crowds of people in My Dinh stadium, connects athletes at ASIAD 2018 and their fans and audience. Through this show, we can share the pride with the athletes who won or failed in the Games, and together advance to the next path, lighting up the pride of Vietnam.", said VOV President Nguyen The Ky at the ceremony. 

Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien congratulated the Vietnamese sports delegation competing at ASIAD 2018.

"Our achievements are partly attributed to the strong determination, solidarity and disciplines in every competition, and more importantly, our national pride. It’s also the love of millions of Vietnamese people that constituted our victory.", said Minister Thien.

The program featured spectacular art performances and exchanges with outstanding athletes, including members of Vietnam’s Olympic football team.

"The goal I scored against the Syrian team was thanks to the whole team’s efforts. I was very happy  that I can contribute to the team’s victory.", said striker Nguyen Van Toan, who scored a goal in Vietnam’s match against Syria.

The 2018 Asian Games (ASIAD 2018) officially closed on Sunday and the Vietnamese sports delegation ranks 17th in the medal tally with 4 gold, 16 silver and 18 bronze medals.
