“Dialogue” exhibition highlights lacquer art
(VOVWORLD) - An exhibition called "Dialogue" combining lacquerware, music, and 3D art videos is underway in Hanoi. It is the debut exhibition of De.lac, a group of artists carrying out art projects inspired by lacquer. The group includes painter Truong Hoang Hai, painter Nguyen Quang Vu, and painter and VFX artist Nguyen Doan Quang Huy.

In the exhibition space of Nam Huong Communal House in Hanoi, “Dialogue” gives viewers a multi-sensory art experience that subtly transitions between familiar colors and more imaginative ones.
The works combine lacquer with other materials to depict natural beauty like lotus flowers in season or cultural and historical symbols like Long Bien bridge.
“The exhibition is called ‘Dialogue’ because each group member has his own personality and taste in art. The combination of the art styles of all the members creates an art dialogue. De.lac wants to convey a new message while providing an opportunity for young Vietnamese and foreign friends to learn about Vietnam’s traditional lacquer art,” painter Nguyen Quang Vu said.
The three young artists have experimented with materials such as recycled plastic, silk, leather, and metal to create their innovative lacquer works.
“By exploring new materials, the young artists have taken a new approach to lacquer art. In place of traditional materials, their works use recycled plastic, which opens up new directions. Young people today are both interested in art and concerned about the community and the environment,” curator Nguyen The Son said.

According to Dr. Tran Hau Yen The, "Dialogue" connects a new perspective on lacquer art with tradition by being held at Hanoi’s hundred-year-old Nam Huong communal house.
“Nam Huong communal house is a cultural center of Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem district. This event is an example of the district coordinating with artists to bring art to communal houses. For a long time now, communal houses in Vietnam have been places, not just for worship ceremonies and festivals, but for music and art activities, too. Hoan Kiem district recently launched a series of projects to bring groups of young artists to its communal houses,” said The.
