Following COVID-19 prevention guidelines, many families have developed better health and hygiene habits. Cleaning or disinfecting door handles, handrails, and household objects has become a regular habit for the family of Vu Xuan Phong in Hanoi.

“Wearing a face mask, avoiding large gatherings, and washing your hands with sanitizer are things you should do to protect yourself, your family, and your community,” said Phong.

During this challenging period, good deeds, a spirit of sharing, and charity programs have spread throughout communities nationwide. Face masks and face shields, hand sanitizer, food, and other essentials have been delivered to isolated areas. Vietnam’s celebrities have actively responded to charity programs to support people who have been hurt financially by the pandemic. 

“Every day I checked the COVID-19 situation in Ho Chi Minh city, a pandemic hot spot, and really wanted to do something to help.  But I live in Hanoi, nearly 2,000 kilometers away, so I worked out a plan and got there as soon as I could,” said Singer Thai Thuy Linh.

Vietnam’s long tradition of helping those in need has shown itself in many practical ways.

“My family sent 1 ton of fish to kitchens serving the frontline forces in the fight against COVID-19,” said Truong Ngoc Ha, a farmer in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang. 

Writer Nguyen Quang Vinh has been active in several charity programs during the pandemic. 

“Vietnam has a tradition of helping those in need in difficult times like natural disasters and pandemics. That’s the power of national unity,” he said.

Good deeds and a spirit of sharing are what will help Vietnam overcome its latest challenge and defeat the pandemic.
