The “Things Everlasting (Dieu con mai)” concert 2022 was held in Hanoi on National Day, September 2. Apart from traditional songs about love for the homeland, this year’s concert also features many songs in contemporary style.

The 2022 concert drew well-known musicians and singers, who touched listeners’ hearts with their marvelous music and melodies and highlighted the theme “Vietnam’s aspiration.”

"The aspiration that we overcome the pandemic to recover and develop has come true. Another aspiration is much bigger: Vietnam will become a developed country by 2045. It is hoped that the concert will ignite in every Vietnamese this aspiration to be a developed, powerful and prosperous Vietnam,” said Editor-in-chief Pham Anh Tuan of VietNamNet, the concert’s organizer.

The program began with a song in praise of President Ho Chi Minh, resonating the solemn moment on September 2, 1945, when President Ho read the Declaration of Independence in Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

The show also recalled memories of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic over the past 2 years, and honored health workers with songs in praise of “soldiers in white blouses” on the frontline of the anti-COVID-19 fight.

“I felt so moved listening to the song ‘White tuberose flowers’ composed to honor health workers. Though the song was written long ago, its message still remains meaningful, especially in the context of the pandemic,” said Nguyen Thi Minh Thu, a former doctor at the Central Eye Hospital.

Many classical revolutionary songs have been mixed in a new style, which blows into them a new spirit and brings them closer to contemporary life. The mixture of chamber, folk music, contemporary music, and revolutionary songs highlights the diversity of Vietnamese music.

“All the songs performed at the concert were familiar to us. I feel moved when I listen to those songs. They remind us of the victorious history and revolution of the Vietnamese people and encourage us to contribute more to national development,” said Vi Thuat Thang of Hanoi, who attended the concert.
