1st chilled meat processing complex inaugurated in Ha Nam

(VOVWORLD) - The Masan Nutri-Science Corporation (MNS) officially opened the MNS Meat Processing Complex at the Dong Van Industrial Park, Ha Nam province, last Sunday. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong applauded the complex’s manufacturing process  which applies Global GAP standards and a food traceability system.

The facility is designed to process 1.4 million pigs annually, equivalent to 140,000 tons of pork per year, and is equipped with modern equipment provided by Marel, a leading global supplier of advanced food processing equipment and systems from the Netherlands. The processing phases of the chilled meat at the MSN complex, using European technology, will be managed by European experts. Pork, after being processed, will be chilled and packed at the plant using Oxy-Fresh technology, to preserve the meat’s freshness and nutritional value and slow the growth of bacteria that cause spoilage. The pork will be kept between zero and 4 degrees Celsius during subsequent processing, transport, storage, distribution and retail.

"Chilling to 0 to 4 °C will help ensure meat quality and food hygiene standards. This method has been used in many advanced countries for a long time. Masan is the first complex in Vietnam to produce chilled meat that meets international standards," said Nguyen Nhu Tiep, Head of the National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong said the complex will boost the animal husbandry industry by strengthening its two weaknesses - processing and distribution. In addition to satisfying a domestic market of more than 100 million consumers, the complex, with its food traceability system, is expected to boost exports of low-cost pork products.
