Can Tho city’s diverse activities to care for children

(VOVWORLD) - Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, localities have had to modify the boisterous events with which they usually celebrate Children’s Day (June 1st). The Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers Organization in Can Tho city, for example, has created online playgrounds for children.

The Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers Organization in Can Tho city has organized an online contest to draw public attention to the Law on Children. The organizing board will receive entries from June 10th to 20th and a final competition round is scheduled to take place in August.

Lam Van Tan, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers Organization of Can Tho city, said: “The children will learn about the Law on Children. Children’s organizations will make video clips on children’s law and send them to the organizing board. The clips will be used for an online communication campaign. We have trained Young Pioneers organizations at the grassroots level on child abuse prevention.”

The city’s Young Pioneer Organization has restarted the “Vehicle of dream” program to help children in remote areas. Phuong Tan Dat, Deputy Director of Can Tho city’s Support Center for Pupils and Students, said: “The ‘Vehicle of dream’ program teaches children in remote areas about COVID-19 prevention, how to protect themselves and abide by health safety regulations.”

Cai Khe ward in Ninh Kieu district launched a program called “exchanging waste for gifts”. In line with pandemic prevention rules, the program engages small groups of children and avoids large gatherings. The children seem very excited to exchange recyclable waste for school supplies. The program has exchanged 800 gifts and collected more than 1 ton of recyclable waste .

Vu Trong Toan, a pupil at Cai Khe 1 Primary School, said: “I’m very happy to receive a gift. My parents won’t have to buy school supplies for me. I’ll study harder to express my gratitude to my parents and teachers.”

The Ho Chi Minh Youth Pioneers Organization of Can Tho city celebrates Children’s Day with activities that encourage children to study and become useful citizens and reminds adults of their responsibility to care for and protect children.
