Colorful activities held to mark Uncle Ho’s visit to northwestern region

(VOVWORLD) - On May 7th, 1959, President Ho Chi Minh had a talk with people and soldiers in the northwestern region on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory. Various activities are taking place to mark the 60th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to the area and celebrate the local development and achievements over the years.

A ceremony was held at the memorial house dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh in Thuan Chau district, Son La province, where Uncle Ho had a talk with soldiers, and local ethnic people in the northwestern region. The site was recognized as a national historical relic in 1995. Since its inauguration last year, the memorial house has welcomed more than 40,000 visitors.

On this occasion, a cultural and sporting event was held in Thuan Chau, drawing 13 teams from across the district to compete in local ethnic games such as tug of war and throwing a cloth ball. Mua A Do of Huoi Gieng hamlet, Thuan Chau district, told VOV: "The event promoted the local culture of Thuan Chau district while teaching younger generations about their predecessors’ revolutionary traditions and consolidating national unity."

Nguyen Duc Thang, Vice Chairman of Thuan Chau district’s People’s Committee, said: "All the activities to celebrate the occasion are taking place in Thuan Chau, the historical site where Uncle had a talk with the local people and soldiers 6 decades ago."

An exhibition featuring 350 pictures of Uncle Ho with local people is taking place in Son La province. The exhibition also covers Son La province’s achievements in national construction and defence over the past 60 years.
