From the perspective of marine economy development, a marine trademark involves a - combination of the local people, personal specialties, sea products, the images of the beaches, islands, tourist sites, and manufactured goods. Vietnam has over 3,260 km of coastline with territorial waters covering more than 1 million square kilometers. If Vietnam can effectively exploit its marine resources, the results will be valuable for socio-economic development. At the Forum, delegates agreed that a marine trademark is decisive in marine economy development and building marine trademark is an urgent task. It’s necessary to work out a strategy to tap marine resources, develop staple and competitive industries such as tourism, seaports, marine services, exploitation of undersea resources, special economic zones, continental shelf, and international waters. The development of marine industries will create a breakthrough and become the main pillars of the economy. Building necessary infrastructure for a marine economy is a primary requirement in order to have a high quality and sustainable marine trademark.  In the Vietnam Sea Development Strategy until 2020, building seaports is listed as a critical task. Nguyen Nhat, Director of the Vietnam Maritime Administration, says: "The Vietnam’s maritime sector has been fine tuning its maritime law institutions, the planning of seaports, ship building technology, and shipping services to generate momentum for marine economy. From now until 2020, the sector will focus on major projects including the Hai Phong international gateway seaport, and Lach Huyen seaport prepare to open two quays capable of receiving vessels with loading capacity of up to 100 ton in 2016."

The Vietnam Sea Development Strategy’s goal is to generate growth through development from marine resources. The connection between the sea and the mainland, and marine economy and national defense requires the combination of responsibility and investment. Deputy Head of the Vietnam Administration of Sea and Islands Nguyen Dang Dao said the 21st century is the century of ocean. Vietnam needs to develop a marine economy with strong marine technologies, and establish a state management agency to effectively undertake the strategy. Building a marine trademark is not only to appropriately and sustainably exploit and use sea resources, but also to boost cooperation between sectors to form a trademark at the macro-level. Le Dinh Son, Vice Chairman of the Ha Tinh provincial People’s Committee, says: "Ha Tinh has established a steering board in charge of marine economy development. We have planning for aquaculture, and mechanisms and policies for companies and individual producers to get involved in marine economy. We also organize provincial and district steering committees to manage marine environmental protection and preservation to ensure sustainable growth in the future."

A marine trademark in Vietnam will improve the competitiveness of Vietnam’s economic, cultural, and tourism products in the international market.
