At a national conference in June this year  to review the implementation of a Politburo Directive on promoting the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality, and style, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said that although President Ho Chi Minh has passed on, the legacy he left to the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese people is precious and enduring.

“He is Vietnam’s most beautiful symbol of patriotism and revolutionary heroism, the radiant crystal of morality, wisdom, mettle, and conscience of the nation and the era. Throughout his life, he trained and devoted himself unceasingly to the Fatherland, his compatriots, and the causes of national liberation, class liberation, social liberation, and human liberation. He lived a life full of hardships and sacrifices, but crowned with glory and nobility, a very rich, bright, and beautiful life. This great man has gone down in history and become a legend since his passing,” said Party leader Trong.

President Ho Chi Minh’s noble personality has motivated many people to study and follow his life. Remembering his teaching "Emulation is patriotism, patriotism is emulation," Mr. Thach Suong, a resident of the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh, has worked hard, developed his household economy, and contributed money and labor  to repairing bridges and rural roads, and helping the poor.

He said, “President Ho Chi Minh taught that words and actions must match, so in addition to campaigning and pioneering local movements, I do my best to make my family better off and contribute to building a more prosperous homeland."

In An Phu Tay commune, Ho Chi  Minh city, Ms. Le Thi Lap, head of the Farmers’ Association branch in Hamlet 3, has for many years campaigned to build paved roads, upgrade the electrical system, and supply clean water to local households. Particularly interested in promoting education, she arranged 37 scholarships for poor children in Hamlet 3 and raised money for the local education fund. She says President Ho Chi Minh's teachings were her lodestar during her 20 years of service.

“I studied President Ho Chi Minh’s thought: what is beneficial to the people should be done, what is harmful to the people should be avoided. I must always remain close to the people. When I get feedback from people, I forward it to leaders at all levels for resolution,” according to Ms. Lap.

To the world, Uncle Ho was the embodiment of honest simplicity

President Ho Chi Minh, the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people, was a model for people around the world, for his modesty, simplicity, and sincerity. Hundreds of books and thousands of articles have been written about President Ho Chi Minh by researchers, reporters, and heads of state.

The late Chilean President Salvador Allende said that Ho Chi Minh's life can be summed up as simplicity and modesty. Professor Huang Zeng, former Deputy Director of the Guangxi Institute of Social Sciences in China, said, “President Ho Chi Minh dressed simply, lived a simple lifestyle, cared for the masses, was close to the masses, simple and easy to approach, with a democratic, gentle, friendly style. He was a popular leader.”

While on an official visit to Vietnam in 2013, Russian President Vladimir Putin wrote in the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum memory book: "Humanity has entered the 21st century, a century of peace, progress, and prosperity. But the values of Ho Chi Minh's ideology and morality remain the torch and symbol of a future culture.”

Gilbert Schoon, former Director of the History Museum in Montreuil, France, said, “President Ho Chi Minh is an icon, the leader of Vietnam, but he is an ordinary man. I am deeply impressed by what President Ho Chi Minh did, not only for Vietnam but for the whole world, because he showed the world that enslaved peoples can stand up and fight to liberate themselves from foreign colonial powers.”

President Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality and style have been a solid foundation for overcoming difficulties, achieving goals, and advancing on Vietnam’s development path.
