Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day celebrated nationwide

(VOVWORLD) - November 23rd has been observed as Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day since 2005 honoring national traditions and raising public awareness of protecting and promoting Vietnamese cultural heritages. To mark the occasion, many activities are underway nationwide.

Under the theme “Cultural heritages in integration and development”, Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day is being celebrated at the Vietnam Culture and Arts Exhibition Center in Hanoi from Thursday to Sunday. The event honors and promotes the unique values of Vietnamese culture through tangible and intangible cultural heritages, landscapes, historical relic sites, and traditional customs. Nguyen Dang Chuong, Director of the Vietnam Culture and Arts Exhibition Center, said: “The event, which draws 56 organizations, features the typical cultural heritages and tourist potential of localities nationwide. In addition to exhibitions, artists and artisans will showcase the traditional arts of Vietnam to help visitors better understand the Vietnamese land and people and raise awareness on the importance of preserving and promoting Vietnamese culture to international friends.”

To mark the occasion, Son La Museum has organized several activities to introduce the Dao culture. A program to revive the Maturity Ceremony of the Dao, a national intangible cultural heritage, and performances of traditional handkerchief and bell dances  were held.

In Hanoi’s’ Old Quarter, a fashion show featuring designers Trinh Bich Thuy, La Hang, and Thuy Anh will run until December 15. They will present silk long dress collections and the silk making process. A seminar on the story of silk will be held with the participation of culture researchers, artisans and designers. A concert called “The Old Quarter's Musical Story” by Dong Kinh Co Nhac (the Ancient Music Group of Tonkin) will take place on Saturday The band will perform traditional musical pieces of ca tru (ceremonial singing), tuong (classical drama) and cheo (traditional operetta).
