Quang Ninh province maintains industrial production despite COVID-19 pandemic

(VOVWORLD) - Quang Ninh province has taken steps to fight COVID-19, stabilize, and develop production and trading chains at local industrial parks in order to maintain the growth of its industrial, processing, and manufacturing sectors, the main drivers of Quang Ninh’s economic development.

To ensure the safety of 28,000 workers in 5 industrial zones, Quang Ninh province has prioritized epidemic prevention and control and monitored the health problems of local businesses.

Each industrial park has formed a steering committee for COVID-19 prevention and control to respond to any emerging epidemic situation.

Each week businesses randomly test 20% of their employees and service providers for SARS-CoV-2 while strictly following the latest recommendations from the Health Ministry, installing transmission shields in canteens, and implementing specific prevention measures in boarding houses and on shuttles transporting workers to and from work.

Luu Thi Hue, who works at the Viet Hung Industrial Park, said, “We migrant workers want to help the company fight the coronavirus. The care we get from the Trade Union makes us feel more secure.”

Foreign experts and other workers at industrial parks in Quang Ninh have received their first vaccine dose and are about to receive their second dose.

Quang Ninh has implemented new investment promotion ideas and improved land clearance, removed obstacles, and streamlined procedures to help businesses proceed their projects and expand their production and sales.

Park Hyo Gyun, President of the Bumjin Electronics Company in the Dong Mai Industrial Park, said, “We were vaccinated for free. 90% of the workers are now fully vaccinated. Quang Ninh has fostered a safe environment where businesses can operate stably. We exported our first consignments since last year, and are increasing our production capacity.”

Since the beginning of this year, many investors have increased their investment and called on their partners to invest in Quang Ninh.

Industrial parks and economic zones in Quang Ninh attracted more than 970 million USD in the first half of 2021 to large projects like the 500-million-USD photovoltaic cell project invested by Jinko Solar Hongkong Technology Company Ltd.

Despite the new coronavirus outbreak, Quang Ninh's industrial development index has risen 6.7% since the beginning of the year. Processing and manufacturing remained a bright spot, up 34.7% from last year, helping the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) grow more than 8%.

To protect industrial production, its main economic pillar, Quang Ninh has prioritized supply of materials from other localities and exports from industrial zones.

Hoang Quang Hai, Director of the provincial Department of Transport, said, “Quang Ninh is setting up 100 COVID-19 checkpoints to control vehicles going in and out of the locality. To create favorable conditions for businesses in goods transport, we’ve granted “green flow” license to 1,800 transport service providers. The licensing is done online, which has made things go more smoothly at all checkpoints.”

Between now and the end of this year, Quang Ninh plans to put 9 processing and manufacturing projects into operation and speed up the investment, construction, and installation of machines and equipment on seven other projects.

More attention will be given to clearing obstacles for processing and manufacturing projects and stepping up promotion and investment attraction activities while complying with all epidemic prevention measures, speeding up the vaccination campaign, and providing all necessary care for workers.
