New Year “Con” throwing festival tightens Vietnam, Laos, China bonds

(VOVWORLD) - Thousands of ethnic people join a ‘Con’ (colorful fabric ball) festival to welcome the 2020 New Year.
The Vietnam-Laos-China ‘Con throwing’ festival in Muong Te district in Vietnam’s northern province of Lai Chau coincides with the Solar New Year 2020 and attracts thousands of ethnic people from the border districts of the three countries, as well as domestic and foreign visitors.

Crows of ethnic minority people of Cong, Mang, Si La, Ha Nhi, and La Hu in Muong Te come down from their mountain villages to enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Everybody, regardless of their age, is eager to meet friends on the first days of the new year.

A traditional cultural space with diverse activities is set up.

Each ethnic minority group brings to the festival their own traditional cultural features which can be seen in their clothes and dances.

The sound of drums and gongs invites visitors to Muong Te.

Nguyen Duc Hien, Deputy Chairman of the Muong Te district People’s Committee, says that after the ‘Con’ throwing festival, the venue will remain open to welcome visitors.
