Mr. Phuc highlighted the significance of the first Mekong-RoK Summit held last year in Busan to the Mekong countries and the RoK. He said: “The adoption of the Mekong-Han River Declaration for Establishing Partnership for People, Prosperity and Peace has added strength to cooperation, accelerated the building of the ASEAN Community, boosted regional connectivity, and stepped up the sustainable development of all member countries. The second Summit is an opportunity to review the implementation of the Mekong-Han River Declaration and discuss cooperation orientations in the new context”.

The RoK will provide 10 million USD to developing countries to ensure that residents of the Mekong region can access COVID-19 vaccine.

At the first Mekong-RoK Summit last year, the countries agreed to cooperate on three pillars of people, prosperity, and peace. They identified seven priority cooperation areas – culture and tourism, human resources development, agriculture and rural development, infrastructure, information and communications, environment, and non-traditional challenges.
