(VOVworld) – The Party Committee of centrally-run businesses has reviewed 5 years of implementing social welfare policies and a government program to support 62 poor districts to reduce poverty between 2008 and 2012.

During the review period, corporations and economic groups donated more than 430 million USD to social welfare programs. Bui Van Cuong is Party Secretary of centrally-run businesses. He said: “Businesses and banks have been at the vanguard in implementing social welfare programs and helping poor districts towards sustainable poverty reduction. Their achievements have contributed greatly to local socio-economic development, building new rural areas and safeguarding national defense and security.”

Banks, corporations and economic groups at the conference committed 150 million USD to social welfare programs this year. The money will be used to build houses for the poor, improve the quality of education, vocational training, healthcare, and people’s awareness.
