At a working session in Hanoi on Tuesday, the Ministry said there are about 55,000 videos with “toxic, illegal” content on Youtube.

By Tuesday, June 25, the Ministry’s Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information had detected 100 domestic brands violating the law on advertisements and pulled their ads from Youtube videos that contained anti-State propaganda. The cash earned from these ads was shared by Google and the producers of the videos, thus indirectly abetting acts of sabbotaging the Vietnamese State.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung asked Vietnamese businesses to set an example in abiding by Vietnamese law and called on cross-border service providers to comply with the host country’s laws.

“Buying ads on a healthy platform helps the nation cleaner and help healthy companies develop. Buying ads on a toxic platform undermines the nation. Ministries and sectors should work to improve the cyber laws including protecting Vietnam’s sovereignty in cyber space. Domestic tech firms should create tools to monitor cyber space in order to defend the nation. We should believe in ourselves so we can protect Vietnam and its ad agents,” said Mr. Hung.

The Ministry of Information and Communications has asked the Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information and functional agencies to outline a specific plan for management and education measures that will support a healthy cyber environment.
