The pilot program, which is worth about 70 million USD, will focus on growing rice and fruit in some districts in 11 provinces on a total area of 158,000 ha.

Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam said building standard agricultural material zones will resolve obstacles and pending problems for agriculture, strengthen connectivity and adaptability between material zones and factories, improve managerial capacity on production database, and systemically implement government policies.

“When piloting the model, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will help localities to build production infrastructure, train human resources, and improve managerial capacity for cooperatives. We will help them build cultivation area code and product traceability. A material zone has to connect two provinces to create regional connectivity and involve other localities. It’s necessary to socialize the model to have the participation of localities, enterprises, and cooperatives,” Nam said.

Participants at the conference said standard agricultural material zones will create momentum for enterprises to invest in agricultural staples.
