Agriculture and rural development to uplift people’s life, PM says

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has praised the agricultural sector’s role as an economic beam for the country during difficult time.

Addressing Wednesday’s online national conference to review the sector this year’ work and discuss plan implementation for next year, the Prime Minister called for higher sectoral target for next year, including a growth rate of more than 3% with sustainable development based on science, technology and digital transformation.

In 2021 agriculture grew 2.85%, contributing to the country's positive growth. Agro-forestry-fishery exports earned more than 48.6 billion USD, 6.6 billion USD higher than target.

Prime Minister Chinh emphasized on the need to diversify market, improve product quality and output for better competitiveness and maximum benefits from the 17 signed free trade deals.

He suggested digital transformation and resources refocusing so that farmers could gain more benefits in the context of circular economy, green economy and methane reduction roadmap according to commitment at the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP 26.

Mr. Chinh highlighted the ultimate goal of raising people’s material and spiritual life as well as early implementation of the national target program on new rural area building to consolidate cultural identities, social welfare and labor market in rural areas.
