(VOVworld) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel will run for a fourth term next year, a senior member of Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) said Tuesday.

Norbert Roettgen of the CDU confirmed the information to CNN, calling Merkel “absolutely determined, willing, and ready to contribute to strengthening the international liberal order”. Merkel’s allies predicted that she would run in the general election next autumn despite backlash over Germany's refugee policies and its acceptance of hundreds of thousands of people fleeing Syria, Afghanistan, and other nations.
