At an online plenary session on the role of parliaments in strengthening regional peace and security within the Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF-29) in the Republic of Korea (RoK) on Tuesday, Mr. Hue said Vietnam continues to its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of relations, and cooperation toward peace, stability and development.

Mr. Hue proposed strengthening parliamentary action and monitoring APPF members’ implementation of policies to maintain peace, stability, and security in the region, and expressed his support for APEC's cooperation in implementing the APEC Vision to 2040 of an open, dynamic, resilient and peaceful Asia-Pacific Community.

Mr. Hue said," We should enhance multilateral cooperation to prevent conflicts, seek solutions to security issues and disputes through peaceful means, strengthen dialogue, build trust, exercise self-restraint and comply with international law."
He stressed the importance of calling on APPF members to cooperate to ensure peace, stability, and rule of law in the seas and oceans, thus making the East Sea a place of peace, friendship, cooperation, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation. Every country should show a sense of responsibility, refrain from activities that complicate or increase tensions, and settle disputes in accordance with international law, especially the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, Hue added.

NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue suggested strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation in other non-traditional security issues, such as climate change.

He said,"We should promote people-centered cooperation by ensuring human security elements, sharing social security benefits from economic development, ensuring that all people, especially women, children, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups, enjoy the benefits of free and open trade and investment, and a fair and profitable economic integration process."
He suggested strengthening the participation of the National Assembly and parliament in planning and monitoring the implementation of policies in a people-centered approach, ensuring equity, social equality, poverty eradication and comprehensive solutions in health care, and social security for people recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
