Art program supports children in island areas

(VOVWORLD) - 2,000 scholarships and gifts were given to children during an art program in Da Nang city on Thursday.

The recipients are the children of soldiers in the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago and the children of fishermen in 5 provinces and cities in the central region. 570,000 USD has been raised by the program to support disadvantaged children across Vietnam via the National Fund for Vietnamese Children. Addressing the event, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh said the program encourages patriotism and national pride and raises public awareness of defending Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty: “I applaud the contributions of enterprises, individuals and organizations who have worked closely with the National Fund for Vietnamese Children and proved their affection for Vietnam’s beloved sea and islands.

Over the past 25 years since its inception, the National Fund for Vietnam Children has raised 260 million USD for 3 million disadvantaged children.
