Athletes honored for unprecedented SEA Games performance

(VOVWORLD) - President Vo Van Thuong on Tuesday praised more than 100 athletes and coaches for their outstanding performance at the recent 2023 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) and pledged the best possible conditions for athletes to improve their performance.

Vietnam finished first at SEA Games 32 in Cambodia with 136 gold, 105 silver and 118 bronze medals. This is the first time that Vietnam has topped the medal tally at a SEA Games not held on its home ground.

At the meeting, President Thuong presented the second-class Labor Order to runner Nguyen Thi Oanh, who won four gold medals at the game, and 37 third-class Labour Orders to other athletes.

He emphasized the need to prioritize sports of Vietnam's strength, particularly in discovering, training, and fostering the next generation of coaches and athletes.
