(VOVworld) – Australians praised Vietnam for collecting public opinions on draft amendments to its 1992 Constitution, saying the draft has many positive points that need to be upheld.  Tran Ba Phuc, Chairman of the Vietnamese Entrepreneurs’ Association in Australia, said on Wednesday the collection of public opinions on the draft amendments shows that Vietnamese people’s rights are respected and Vietnam is a democratic nation. Phuc said the draft should stipulate that overseas Vietnamese enjoy the same rights as people in the country. He added that it should clearly regulate overseas Vietnamese protection and procedures to maintain Vietnamese citizenship.  According to Professor Carlyle Thayer, a researcher from the Australian Defense Force Academy, Vietnam’s collection of public opinions on the draft is a positive step. He expressed his belief that the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution will soon achieve national consensus.
