Australia’s Queensland to ease coronavirus restrictions

(VOVWORLD) - Queensland is the first state of Australia to relax some of its anti-coronavirus measures following initial progress in the country's fight against the pandemic, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced on Saturday.

Palaszczuk said the state will let people go for drives, have picnics, visit a national park and shop for non-essential items, as long as it's within 50km of home and social distancing is maintained. Restrictions on other gatherings and visitors will remain in place, she said, adding the Queensland government will monitor coronavirus cases and will review the easing after two weeks. Other states of Australia are considering relaxing some of their strict measures.

As of Saturday morning, Australia had reported more than 6,700 cases and 81 confirmed deaths.
