Authorities repatriate Vietnamese citizens from the US, France amid pandemic

(VOVWORLD) -The Vietnamese authorities are working to repatriate Vietnamese citizens who are stranded in the US due to the novel coronavirus pandemic in the country,  the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said late Tuesday. 

The ministry together with the Vietnamese Embassy and Vietnamese representative agencies in the US has worked closely with relevant US agencies and Vietnam Airlines to organize a flight on Thursday.

Vietnamese authorities on Wednesday brought home  approximately 240 Vietnamese citizens from France, who are the elderly, people who suffer from underlying health issues, students without accommodation, and minors under 18 years of age.

After the plane landed at Van Don International Airport in northern Vietnam on Wednesday, relevant agencies conducted thorough medical examination procedures before transferring the passengers to a concentrated isolation facility in line with the regulations.

In addition to transporting Vietnamese citizens back home, Vietnam Airlines also transported medical supplies from the Vietnamese government and people to their French counterparts.
