Bangladesh's ruling party wins general elections

(VOVWORLD) - Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Awami League (AL) party has won the controversial general elections on Sunday.

The AL and its allies crossed the 151 seats required to form a government and won 191 seats while the opposition coalition had only 5, local media reported.

This time 1,841 candidates, 1,745 from political parties and 96 independent, are vying for 300 parliamentary seats, the Election Commission said.
