Britain expected to reach broad agreement on joining CPTPP later this week

(VOVWORLD) -The UK is gaining support for joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) from all 11 member countries. They are expected to reach a broad agreement soon.

Britain said negotiations with the CPTPP members have been going well. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's spokesperson said ministers will discuss the CPTPP with their counterparts later this week.

According to sources familiar with the negotiations, Britain will likely join the pact immediately after the ministerial level meeting. If everything goes smoothly, the UK will become the first non-founding country admitted to the CPTPP.

The CPTPP is a continuation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership following the withdrawal of the US. The CPTPP was signed on March 8, 2018 by 11 member countries and officially took effect on December 30, 2018.

The 11 member countries of the pact are Canada, Mexico, Peru, Chile, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
