British Queen approves Brexit bill
(VOVWORLD) - Britain's Queen Elizabeth on Tuesday gave royal assent to Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit bill, ending months of debate over the legislation that will formally end Britain's EU membership.
House of Commons speaker John Bercow said the EU withdrawal bill, passed by both houses of Parliament last week, has been signed into law by the Queen. The bill transfers decades of European law onto British statute books to minimize legal disruption, and also enshrines Brexit day in British law as March 29, 2019 at 11pm.
More than 250 hours have been spent debating the bill in the House of Commons since it was introduced in July 2017.
