(VOVWORLD) - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Monday issued an emergency message calling on government and private organizations to halt unnecessary gatherings in order to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the situation has been complicated by the 49 new COVID-19 cases reported on Monday in Phnom Penh, Preah Sihanouk, Prey Veng, and Kandal province.
Prime Minister Hun Sen asked all organizations to maintain a minimum of staff in the office and called on people to leave home only for unavoidable errands.
The same day, the Cambodian Minister for Education, Youth, and Sports announced a decision to close all schools and training centers in Peam Ro district of Prey Veng province.
