China imposes up to 75% tariffs on plastic imports
(VOVWORLD) - China's Commerce Ministry on Sunday launched an anti-dumping probe into POM copolymers, a type of engineering plastic, imported from the EU, the US, Japan, and Taiwan (China). The tariffs, taking effect Monday, will remain in place for five years.
The highest anti-dumping rate of 74.9% was levied on imports from the US, while European shipments will face 34.5% duties. China slapped 35.5% duties on Japanese imports, except for Asahi Kasei Corporation, which received a company-specific rate of 24.5%.
General duties of 32.6% were placed on imports from Taiwan (China), while Formosa Plastics received a 4% tariff and Polyplastics Taiwan 3.8%.
According to the ministry, an investigation showed that imports of polyformaldehyde copolymer from those places involved dumping, which caused substantial damage to the polyformaldehyde copolymer industry in China.
