(VOVWORLD) -Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin on Wednesday asked countries to scientifically respond to the pandemic and not to let it affect normal personnel exchanges.

He made the call at a regular press conference on Tuesday in Beijing, when some countries have tightened quarantine requirements for passengers from China. China has eased COVID-19 control measures towards opening borders on January 8, 2023.
Wang said that since COVID-19 broke out, the Chinese government has constantly optimized prevention measures according to the situation, effectively coordinated disease control and socio-economic development, made important contributions to the global fight against the pandemic and economic recovery.
He called for a “science-based response and coordinated approach” to keep travel safe and “promote a steady and sound recovery of the world economy.”
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced Tuesday that Japan will tighten border control for COVID-19 by requiring tests for all visitors from China starting Friday. Those who test positive will be quarantined for seven days at designated facilities.
The US is considering new COVID-19 regulations for travelers coming from China. Malaysia, South Korea, India, and Italy have imposed entry requirements such as testing, monitoring, and tracing of Chinese passengers.
