Torrential rain caused severe flood in Binh Dinh province on December 16

Continual downpours  over the past month have killed 3 people, inundated 10,000 houses and destroyed 6 bridges in Phu Cat district of Binh Dinh province. On Sunday, a total of one km of sea dykes was broken, threatening the life and property of dozens of thousands of local people.

“We are trying to fix the damaged dyke sections to ensure people's safety. We are looking forward to Government assistance because this is a difficult mission, given insufficient local resources”, said Luong Van Nhan, Chairman of Phu Cat’s People's Committee.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Defense, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade delivered drinking water and  5 tonnes of food to flood victims.

As flood waters have started to recede in Thua Thien-Hue, Khanh Hoa, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces, local authorities are assisting flood victims.

“We are assessing the damage and helping people prepare for the winter-spring crop. We have also asked for aid from the central Government”, said Le Tri Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee.
