(VOVWORLD) - The Covid-19 pandemic has now affected 213 countries and territories with more than 5.5 million infections, and the global death toll has exceeded 347,000, according to the statistics website Worldometers.
The US is still the hardest hit with 1.7 million infections and 99,000 fatalities. Brazil reported 800 new cases in the past 24 hours, raising its total infections to 376,000.
The World Health Organization has warned that there is a high risk of a resurgence of infections. Dr. Michael Ryan, Executive Director of the WHO’s Health Emergencies Program, said countries now seeing a decline in COVID-19 cases may soon see a "second peak" if they lift their restrictions too soon.
