According to Monday’s meeting in Hanoi, presided over by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, adjustments have been made to the city’s master planning until 2030, with an eye towards 2045.

By 2030, Da Nang is also expected to become a destination for global travellers, a centre of tourism and services, as well as a maritime economic hub in Vietnam, and the region at large. In the long term, the city hopes to become a special urban area, and an international city.

“Da Nang should not depend too much on tourism," Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said, pointing out that the city was one of three localities with the deepest economic loss in Vietnam over the past year.

"It’s crucial to attract tech firms for large-scale development,” he said.

Given that it boasts one of the most beautiful beaches in the region, Prime Minister Phuc urged the city to pay more attention to waste water treatment and climate change issues.
