The delegation laid wreaths at the monument, lit candles, and burned incense to the martyrs who laid down their lives for national freedom and independence.

Dien Bien province has also unveiled a gigantic painting which reenacts historic Dien Bien Phu Campaign that put an end to French colonial rule in Vietnam.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Chap and Mr. Pham Duc Cu, the two war veterans who fought in the campaign, said:

“The painting reminds us of the glorious days of the Dien Bien Phu campaign. Many of our comrades sacrificed their lives for national independence.”

“The panorama is like a miniature of the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, echoing the resounding Dien Bien Phu victory 67 years ago. We feel extremely proud of our comrades who died for national independence.”

On this occasion, Son La province inaugurated a new Vo Nguyen Giap memorial as part of a local plan to renovate and preserve historical relic sites in Nhot village. In 1954, General Vo Nguyen Giap and his soldiers stopped at Nhot village on their way to the Dien Bien battlefield.
