Early this week, leaders of the Donetsk People’s Republic and Luhansk People’s Republic in Donbass announced ceasefires effective midnight September 15 and urged Kiev to follow suit. They banned retaliations against Ukraine’s military provocations. But Donetsk reported several times that Ukraine continued shelling its areas along the demarcation line. Kiev accused pro-separatists in eastern Ukraine of violating the ceasefire and killing a number of Ukrainian soldiers.

The new 7-day ceasefire was adopted following a meeting between German and French Foreign Ministers and the Ukrainian President in Kiev on Wednesday.
