East Sea conference: ASEAN unity matters to regional stability

(VOVWORLD) -Experts continued discussions on the leadership role of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the importance of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in ensuring stability at sea as the 17th South China Sea International Conference entered the second day on Tuesday in Da Nang city.

Themed "Unity in Uncertainties", this year's conference has a conversation between ambassadors to share perspectives on the responsibility of maintaining peace. In addition, the conference devoted a session for young researchers to raise their new ideas on how to “strengthen unity and overcome uncertainty”.

On Monday, the first working day, high on the agenda were new developments in the East Sea, the strategies of major countries and the impact of emerging technologies on the sea. Experts proposed new approaches and specific measures, saying unity within ASEAN is an important factor to curb the risk of escalating tensions in the East Sea.
