(VOVWORLD) - The European Parliament adopted a legislative initiative report on Wednesday calling on the Commission to ban “golden passports” linked to EU citizenship for big foreign investors.

Members of the EP also proposed new common rules of golden visa issuance all over Europe to address the many problems linked to ‘citizenship/residence by investment’ schemes.
The move was driven from the West’s sanctions on Russia. The Parliament has asked member states to remove Russians applying for golden passports and visas and reassess all approved applications from the past few years.
