Ethiopia declares national mourning day for victims of plane crash

(VOVWORLD) -The Ethiopian National Assembly declares the national day of mourning on Monday for victims of Sunday’s Ethiopian Airlines passenger jet’s crash, which killed all 157 people on board. 

Victims are from 35 countries with Kenya having the largest number of deaths, 32. Among them are dozens of UN staff who were en-route to the national meeting of the UN Environment Program slated for Monday. Ethiopian Airlines passenger jet Boeing 737 bound for Nairobi crashed minutes after take-off on Sunday. Sunday’s flight left Bole airport in Addis Ababa at 8:38 a.m., before losing contact with the control tower just a few minutes later at 8:44 a.m. State-owned Ethiopian Airlines has been one of the biggest airlines in Africa.
