Ethnic girl from border province confirmed contracting COVID-19

(VOVWORLD) - A girl of the H’Mong ethnic minority group was confirmed positive for SARS-CoV-2 on Thursday morning, raising the total tally of COVID-19 infections in Vietnam to 268, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The new patient lives in a remote village in Dong Van district of Ha Giang province near the border with China. She was isolated and treated at Dong Van District General Hospital on April 7 after displaying indications of a fever, a cough, and shortness of breath.

Of the overall number of COVID-19 cases in the country, 160 returned from abroad and 108 were community infections. 171 are cured  and the remaining 97 patients are being treated at healthcare facilities and field hospitals nationwide.

Donations from individuals and organizations to Vietnam’s COVID-19 fight have to date amounted to 68 million USD.
