(VOVworld) - The European Union has given Greece a deadline of three months to fix its border controls, following a report two weeks ago that said the country had seriously neglected its obligations to control the EU border zone. This new move would allow other Schengen states to strengthen control of their own borders in the meantime. It is believed that more than 850,000 migrants landed in Greece last year. A report by the European Commission last month said that Greece had lax border control which the commission said if it does not improve other Schengen states might be forced to re-impose old internal border controls. Most of the migrants arriving in Greece come from Turkey and land mainly on the islands of Lesbos and Samos.
