(VOVWORLD) - The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) had lifted the ban on Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), allowing the airline to resume flights to Europe, said Pakistan’s Aviation Minister Khawaja Asif on Friday.

The ban was imposed in 2020 due to safety concerns in the wake of an air crash in Karachi which left nearly 100 people dead.
Minister Khawaja Asif called this an important step forward, adding that the lifting of the ban was a great success for Pakistan.
According to him, the development was made possible due to substantial efforts to strengthen Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority and ensure safety oversight in line with International Civil Aviation Organization Standards.
