(VOVworld)- The European Commission (EC) is ready to discuss new ways to receive and distribute asylum seekers in the EU. The annoucement was made on Tuesday after Paris and Berlin called for re-considering a plan to cope with growing numbers of illegal immigrants.
Speaking at a meeting of interior ministers from six EU countries in Dresden, Germany, migration commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos said that the distribution of asylum seekers initially announced by the EU is reasonable and matches each country’s condition.
But he said further discussion is needed on the resettlement and relocation schemes and the distribution key used to determine the extent of responsibility-sharing for each member state.
Mr.Avromapoulos added that the EU is ready to discuss with member states the modalities of implementing mechanisms to ensure a fair distribution of asylum seekers within the EU.
